     Optiforms continues its commitment to our customers by a continual expansion of our comprehensive in-house capabilities. Product costs may include value added activities normally incurred by our customers at an extensive additional cost from other outside suppliers. Optiforms has taken an aggressive approach to move those value added activities into our manufacturing facility. Incorporating these services along with our products offers substantial savings to our customers.

     Our standard product lines fit most optical necessities, but in those unique cases where specific tooling or modifications are necessary, we have the in-house capability to assist you in your specialized projects. Our engineering staff can convert your product design into the necessary manufacturing drawings Optiforms will use to make your product. We combine our recently upgraded (and CNC capable) machine shop with unsurpassed optical polishing expertise (both mechanical and hand-polish) in our polishing lab, to produce the desired optical surface. Should you need additional features cut into your designed optic, we offer electrical discharge machining (EDM). We also offer complete bonded assembly capability. We combine internally manufactured mounts and spinnings with a dedicated bonding assembly area to produce ready to install, optical assemblies.

     Optiforms also has fully staffed and specifically dedicated departments to assist our customers in obtaining the highest quality, ready-for-use optical components. We look forward to assisting you with your specific requirements.


Advanced Inspection Techniques

    As industry moves toward tighter tolerances and higher supplier expectations, Optiforms (OFI) has made the bold move to deliver measurable performance of its products to the market place. Driven by a commitment to deliver world-class quality and customer service, OFI has invested in new equipment to improve machined part measurement, automate coordinate measuring and laser engrave its products.



Portable CMM

    The portable CMM is a measuring arm used throughout our quality control process. The arm increases our ability to inspect and verify a multitude of mechanical characteristics accurately and efficiently. Used in the daily routine of inspecting machined parts as well as vendor supplied products, the CMM determines conformance specifications. More importantly, the arm is used throughout the process of manufacturing master tools, verifying their optical profiles.

    To manufacture a master tool, a 3d model of the desired curve for a reflector is used to program the CNC equipment which machines the tool. The same model is then loaded into the CMM's software to compare the master tool to the 3d model using the portable CMM. Accurate to within +/-0.0002", the CMM finds any discrepancies created by the machining process. These discrepancies are then fine tuned until the curvature (geometry) of the master tool is perfected. During polishing, the CMM is used again in the same manner. Measurements are taken and adjustments made to the polishing process until the final product is within the specified tolerances. As a final check, reflectors are made from the master tool and their profiles are measured by the CMM to validate the results.

    One of the major advantages of using the portable CMM is mobility. The CMM can be used on the granite flat or mounted directly onto the CNC equipment. This makes "in process" measurements possible and ensures unprecedented levels of success.

Video Inspection Equipment

    In April, 2011, OFI made a significant investment with the purchase of a Video touch probe inspection system. Capable of video inspection as well as touchprobe measurement, this automated inspection device eliminates costly inspection errors by automating repetitive inspection tasks. The unit has optical and CNC measuring capability. Most impressive is the reduction in inspection time through automated measuring. This measuring device captures measurement data and ensures the accuracy of Optiforms products. This unit represents another example of Optiforms uncompromising commitment to quality and customer service.

CNC Machining Capability

    Optiforms CNC machine shop enables us to manufacture custom tooling in-house at a fraction of the cost of outside vendors. With multiple CNC lathes and milling centers, our machine shop can handle most complex custom tooling requirements. Accurate to within +/-0.0002", our high speed vertical milling centers provide high spindle speeds, fast rapids, and quick tool changes for maximum efficiency. Our CNC electro-discharge machining operations can provide significant value and cost reduction to our customers as well. Optiforms proprietary machining procedures help to deliver the highest quality nickel reflective optics in the world.
